Poem by Betty Scott Stam - Open My Eyes

Open my eyes that I may see
This one and that one needing Thee;
Hearts that are dumb, unsatisfied;
Lives that are dark, for whom Christ died.
Open my eyes in sympathy
Clear into man’s deep soul to see;
Wise with Thy wisdom to discern,
And with Thy heart of love to yearn.
Open my eyes in power, I pray,
Give me the strength to speak today,
Someone to bring, dear Lord, to Thee,
Use me, O Lord, use even me.

Poem by Unknown - The Test of a Hero

It’s easy to fight in the cause of the right
  When it’s surely, steadily winning;
To nobly stand with a gallant band
  While plaudits loud are dinning;
For nothing inspires and fans the fires
  Of out noblest best endeavor,
Like knowing success will crown our best
  And glory be ours forever.

But to stand with the few and yet be true
  To a seemingly losing cause;
To fight for the right with all your might,
  With never a sound of applause;
To stand like a brave in the face of a grave,
  O’erhung with the cloud of defeat,
This, this is the test of a hero, the best,
  A hero we seldom meet.

Poem by Unknown

I know not by what methods rare,
But I know; God answers prayer.
I know not when He sends the word
That tells us fervent prayer is heard.
I know it cometh soon or late;
Therefore, we need to pray and wait.
I know not if the blessing sought
Will come in just the guise I thought.
I leave my prayers with Him alone
Whose will is wiser than my own.

Poem by H.W.Longfellow - "When I Compare"

When I compare
            What I have lost with what I have gained,
            What I have missed with what attained,
Little room do I find for pride.

I am aware
            How many days have been idly spent;
            How like an arrow the good intent
Has fallen short or been turned aside.

But who shall dare
            To measure loss and gain in this wise?
            Defeat may be victory in disguise;
The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide.

Poem by H.W. Longfellow

The day is done, and the darkness
            Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
            From an eagle in his flight.

And the night shall be filled with music
            And the cares that infest the day,
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
            And silently steal away.

Quote - Victor Hugo

Courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small one; and then when you have accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.

Poem by Eugene L. Clark - "I Shall Not Want"

In poverty I wandered,
  A sheep outside the fold,
Until the shepherd found me
  And brought me wealth untold.

In want I sought for something
  To satisfy my soul,
Until the shepherd found me,
  Restored and made me whole.

I thirsted for some water,
  My soul to satisfy,
He showed me springs of water
  That never would run dry.

In hunger I was searching
  Through deserts dry and bare,
Until the shepherd showed me
  His pastures green and fair.

I shall not want, for Jesus is my shepherd.
  He leadeth me beside the waters still.
In pastures green, He gently makes me down to lie.
  I shall not want, for He my soul shall fill.
